Privacy Policy

Snipx is an independently run personal project โ€” a free UTM link builder, shortener, and landing-page tool. This page explains what data Snipx collects, why, which cookies it sets, and how you can control that. It isn't run by a registered company; if you have questions, reach out at info@snipx.in.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

If you create an account, we store your username, a salted hash of your password (never the password itself), and, if you choose to provide it, an email address used only for password recovery.

Link and page content

The URLs, UTM parameters, custom slugs, tags, and landing-page content (titles, bios, buttons, colors) you create are stored so the product can function โ€” generate short links, render your landing page, and show your dashboard.

Usage and analytics data

When a short link or landing page is visited, we record click/view counts and, via our analytics provider PostHog, a few technical details about the visit: an approximate location (city/country/region, derived from IP address โ€” the raw IP itself is also processed but not permanently retained by us beyond what PostHog stores), browser user agent, referring page, and which UTM parameters were present. This data is tied to an anonymous visitor ID stored in the snipx_vid cookie described below, not to your real-world identity, unless you're logged in.

2. Cookies We Use

All cookies below are first-party (set by snipx.in)
CookiePurposeDurationType
auth_token Keeps you signed in. 7 days Strictly necessary
snipx_vid Anonymous visitor ID used to correlate clicks/views for analytics. 1 year Analytics
PostHog cookies Set by our analytics provider (PostHog) to recognize repeat visits and sessions. Varies (PostHog-managed) Analytics

We also use localStorage (not a cookie, but similar in effect) to remember your light/dark theme preference and your cookie consent choice โ€” these never leave your browser.

3. Your Cookie Choices

When you first visit Snipx, a banner lets you Accept or Reject analytics cookies. Rejecting stops the client-side analytics SDK from capturing your activity in your browser. Note that some basic click/view analytics on links and pages you interact with are recorded server-side regardless of this choice, since that's how the product measures link performance for its creators โ€” the "Reject" choice controls tracking of you as a visitor, not the operation of the link/page itself. The auth_token cookie is always set for logged-in sessions, since it's required for the site to function.

You can change your choice at any time via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of any page.

4. Third Parties We Use

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone beyond what's needed to run the service above.

5. Your Rights

You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time by emailing info@snipx.in. As this is currently a manual process rather than a self-serve tool, please allow a few days for a response.

6. Children's Privacy

Snipx is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

7. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Snipx after a change means you accept the updated policy.
